Reading should serve prayer, should dispose the affections, should neither devour the hours nor gobble up the moments of prayer. Sermon 7: Gilbert of Hoyland (Abbot of Swineshead) died 1172.

This little collection of prayers is offered as part of our journey of preparation this Lent. As well as a prayer for each day, there is a reference to one of the Bible readings appointed for the daily Eucharist.
