BREAKING NEWS

On the 3rd October 2025 it was announced that The Right Reverend and Right Honourable Dame Sarah Mullallaly DBE will become the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Rt Revd Stephen Conway, the Bishop of Lincoln, writes: "I offer my heartfelt congratulations to the Rt Revd Dame Sarah on her appointment as the next Archbishop of Canterbury. It is truly an historic moment that we welcome the first woman Archbishop. Her courage to step forward and her faithful response to the call of the Spirit has been recognised. May these qualities continue to guide her as she prepares for her responsibilities as the spiritual leader of the Church of England. The rich and varied vocations and ministries she has followed throughout her life, including as Chief Nurse and as the Bishop of London, will bring a grounded and pastorally sensitive approach to her leadership. I trust that this signifies a future hope and renewal for our Church and the faith we hold dear. I warmly invite you to join me in praying for Archbishop-designate Sarah as she prepares for the momentous task that lies ahead, and for all the dioceses and parishes which will be embarced by her care and guidance." The full press release regarding her appointment can be read here.
